History of Mitsubishi Fuso

One of Japan's oldest and largest engineering concerns, the Mitsubishi Group, is currently the country's third-largest car manufacturer. However, Mitsubishi is not only a well-known brand of passenger cars, but also a leading manufacturer of trucks.

Mitsubishi FusoTruck & BusCorporation (FUSO) has been making buses & truckssince the late 1920s. Mitsubishi Fuso has been part of the Mitsubishi Motors structure as a cargo division for a long time. In 2005, the production of trucks came under the control of the German concern Daimler AG. To date, Daimler AG owns 89.29% of the company's shares, the rest belongs to the Mitsubishi Group.

Key dates in the history of Mitsubishi Fuso

The history of the Mitsubishi Fuso brand has almost 100 years of production of buses, trucks and engines for them.

1932 - Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. produced the first commercial bus B46, which was named FUSO.

1935 - Japan's first diesel-powered commercial truck, the BD46.

1948 - The company began to produce the DB0 diesel engine.

1950 - Production of the R1 model, the largest bus in Japan, began.

1955 - Model T33, Japan's first heavy-duty truck, is released.

1959 - The company began producing the T380 cabover heavy duty truck.

1960 - Mitsubishi introduced the Rosa B10 small bus.

1963 - the first car of the Canter model rolled off the assembly line of the company.

1966 - The company launched the T951 truck, which has the largest payload capacity among trucks made in Japan.

1969 - The company began producing the K1300, which became the largest truck in the Fuso K series.

1972 - Mitsubishi celebrates the 100,000th Canter.

1984 - the company began production of a new model of the FIGHTER medium-duty truck.

1997 - The company introduced the first automatic transmission bus in Japan.

2002 - the production of new generation Canter cars began.

2006 - The company introduced the Canter with a hybrid engine.

2007 - Mitsubishi Fuso turns 75 years old.

2010 - Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp. jointly with OJSC KamAZ, opened an assembly plant for Canter light trucks in Russia. The first models of co-produced trucks were demonstrated at the exhibition, meeting all European environmental standards.

One of the Asian leaders in the commercial vehicle market, MFTBC, part of the Daimler Truck Asia division, has announced the 2021 Canter light truck.

Externally, the car is easily distinguished by the new design of the bow in the corporate style of the Fuso Black Belt (“Black Belt”). It should be noted that such a design solution is already used on a number of other models of the company - Aero Queen, Aero Ace, and Rosa buses. Of particular note are the fully LED headlights of a new shape, which replaced the old optics, which have not changed for 10 years.

No less important changes have taken place inside. To begin with, the new Canter is the first truck in the Japanese market to receive the Active Sideguard Assist active safety system. The latter helps the driver to detect pedestrians and cyclists in blind spots - when turning left or turning on the left turn signal. The sensor scans the space near the cab and, in the event of a collision threat, gives light and sound signals. It will be an excellent addition to the electronic systems - Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS), ESP and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), which are already known from the previous model.

The new Canter also received the Truckconnect telematics platform, which determines the location of the vehicle, captures fuel consumption and monitors technical parameters. All this information is transmitted online to the company's Customer Assistance Center (CAC). Note that Truckonnect has already proven itself well on medium and heavy Fuso trucks, as well as eCanter electric light trucks.

New on Canter is also worth noting the FUSO Easy Access System keyless entry system - all the driver needs to have to open the doors and start the engine is a special key fob in his pocket.

The 2021 Mitsubishi Fuso Canter is powered by a 130-horsepower turbo diesel engine mated to a 6-speed Duonic 2.0 automatic transmission. The Start & Stop system is included as standard. Sales of the new model in the Japanese market will start in November this year.
