D4DD

In 2008, the production of the D4DD power plant began. The motor differed from its fellow D4DB electronic Common Rail fuel injection system. When creating engines for commercial vehicles, the main goal is not speed performance. For trucks and vans, torque is important, which is why the power of the D4DD is only 140 horsepower with a volume of 3.9 liters, but the torque is 380 Hm at 1600 rpm.

 

The engine is built on the basis of a cast-iron block, the cylinder arrangement is in-line. Classic 4-cylinder diesel. The cylinder diameter is 104 mm and the piston stroke is 115 mm. The architecture of the engine can be considered long-stroke. Such motors have excellent traction from the lowest revs and are superior to their short-stroke brothers in efficiency.

Appearance of the D4DD engine. The power plant is quite compact. The absence of a timing belt makes it very reliable - there is simply nothing to tear. The Common Rail direct injection system has been implemented. The intake manifold is made of metal.

 

The design of the cylinder head is simple. 8 valves - 2 for each cylinder - and only one camshaft located in the engine block. The valves are controlled by rocker arms. The timing drive is implemented using two gears. Hydraulic compensators and phase shifters are not provided by the design. The simplest cylinder head is very reliable due to the absence of complex elements, the head has a huge resource and rarely causes problems to its owners.

There is no camshaft in the 8-valve cylinder head, the design is simplified as much as possible, this adds reliability to the engine.

 

The engine is equipped with Common Rail direct electronic fuel injection. Also installed turbocharged with intercooler. The unit has proven itself on the good side. The engine is reliable and unpretentious, it can easily cover 500 thousand kilometers without major repairs.
