Komatsu manufactures a wide range of diesel engines that it installs on its own production equipment - bulldozers, excavators, pipe layers, front loaders, etc.
Some of the engines are developed directly by Komatsu engineers and have an original design. Some motors under this brand are created in conjunction with the company Cummins. Komatsu and Cummins have been collaborating for several decades. One of the first mass Cummins engines installed on Komatsu vehicles was the Cummins NTA-855. In the future, cooperation only expanded, and even a separate company was established with the head office in Japan Komatsu Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. PECULIARITIES OF KOMATSU ENGINE DETAILS
Komatsu engines use:
sleeves both dry and wet types. The inner surface of most liners is nitrated in order to reduce wear on the part and prevent scuffing.
pistons, both aluminum and forged cast iron, to ensure high reliability and durability.
piston rings are designed to hold the pressure of the compression gas inside the cylinder walls, as well as transfer heat from the piston to the cylinder liner. They are made of a special steel alloy with a high degree of resistance to wear and with heat resistance.
liners provide crankshaft rotation at high pressure and at high speeds. Each liner is made of one type of metal (as the main one), but there is also a middle layer and an outer coating providing a higher degree of reliability of the part.
