The American company Ariens, founded in 1933 in the city of Brillion, Wisconsin, by Henry Ariens and his three sons: Steve, Leon and Francis - they developed the first American walk-behind tractor. At a time when other manufacturers worked with imported walk-behind tractors. It took seven years of trial and error, perseverance, for walk-behind tractors to become a proven tool for agriculture and gardeners in the country.
At the end of the 30th year, Ariens introduced, unlike competitors, more convenient motoblock models: Model B Tiller, Roller-Tiller, Multi-Tiller, Tractor Tiller, with Jitterbug and Tillivator RC front cutters for gardeners in Florida.
By 1940, the company had many contracts with horticulturists/vegetarians in Michigan and Ohio. Soil cultivation began to take place much faster and better, this made it possible to abandon horses and plows. In the 40s, during the Second World War, by order of the US Department of Defense, for the construction of runways, laying soil, cement and asphalt, the company created the Ariens Aggmixer paver.
In 1943, the US Armed Forces entered into a short-term agreement for the manufacture of three hundred 75 mm. shells. After the Second World War, the company refurbished and expanded its production by 582 sq. m. In the late 40s and early 50s, there was a high demand for plant products and their cultivation. The company immediately reacted and launched the Ariens Tillivator model on the market.
Henry Ariens passed away in 1956, but his three sons carried on his legacy. Steve became president of the company and sales manager. Leon as vice president, Francis led the service and customer service department. Later, it was he who created the Ariens service school.
1958 saw the introduction of brand new products: the Jet Tiller and the Imperial Riding Mower.
In 1960, the progressive Ariens Rocket Tiller motor cultivator and the ARIENS Sno-Thro snow blower appeared. By the end of 1950, the production of agricultural equipment was significantly reduced, in 1968 the company produced the last batch of agricultural equipment, the Hydro-Spacer cultivator / walk-behind tractor.
Beginning of 1960, various lines of production appear in the company. One of the most successful areas is becoming Ariens Sno-Thro - snow throwers. Design and exterior design were developed from December 1959, and in March 1960 the prototype was completed. The first models were shown to three major distributors, and in waist-deep snow, the product was met with widespread approval. In July 1960, in order to be in time for the season, the company began production of 1,856 snowplows.
In 1963, a new plant with an area of almost 2140 sq.m. was built.
In 1969, under the direction of Steve Ariens, the company acquired Sperry New Holland (agricultural equipment), Edko Manufacturing (garden tractors) and Promark Company.
In 1982, Aries acquires Gravely (garden equipment).
In 1977, Ariens reached peak production due to new production facilities.
In 1995, Ariens buys a manufacturer and supplier of spare parts: Stens Corporation and OPE.
In 1998, the management of the company passed to the fourth generation of the Ariens family, which led to innovations in production and the expansion of the product range.
In connection with the 70th anniversary of Ariens, a museum was opened in Brillion, Wisconsin in 2003.
In 2005, the company releases its 2 millionth Sno-Thro snow blower.
In 2006, 6.5 million dollars are invested in development and support. In the same year, the company enters into an agreement to purchase lawn mower manufacturers: Locke Turf, National Mower and Bynorm group - the largest distributor of spare parts in Australia.
In 2008, acquisition of J. Thomas, a direct supplier of parts in Detroit, pc. Michigan.
A year later, in 2009, the purchase of Parker (lawn mowers, garbage collection, sweepers and vacuum cleaners).
In 2010, the company buys Countax Ltd., a manufacturer of seated lawn mowers (Oxfordshire, UK). In the same year, the first Ariens AMP Sno-Thro electric snow blower with a two-stage cleaning system appeared. Also, the Norwegian company Søvde was acquired - power equipment.
In 2011, the company made a large investment to expand the factory and renovate the office space. And acquired the Norwegian manufacturer of spare parts Norpower.
Today the company occupies a leading position in the production of snowplows and not only. Continues to develop new modern models that meet most of the world's requirements.
